Welcome to Part 2 of my favourite Books of the Year 2024. Firstly, a correction… thank you to one eagle-eyed reader for pointing out the mistake in my last email newsletter (now corrected on my website). The poet John Clare’s beloved River Gwash near Helpston was submerged beneath England’s largest reservoir, Rutland Water, while Thirlmere in the Lake District is the reservoir that serves the people of Manchester (it also covered the Wordsworths’ favourite walking territory, but that’s another story). Today, the second part of my 2024 books round-up features biographies of intellectual women and bookish men, deeply moving memoirs and reissued classics about leading Bloomsbury figures. Read on for links to some of my most popular posts this year.
