Dear Ann, here's to you! I adore your Substack (as do so many of us) and am honoured to be mentioned here - YOU have been so supportive to me and this does, indeed, remain a lovely arena.
Oh I am glad to hear it's a thumbs-up from you for Gaudy Night, Laura - and it's great to have connected with you here. Really engrossed by your Lucan series this week, saving up the final episode to relish later.
Thank you Sarah, I hope you enjoy Gaudy Night. Might do an intro post soon, to give some background to the author and her series of Harriet Vane books (need to read a few myself!).
I hope they settled on three syllables for "vegetable," but then again, I'm an American (I'll happily pronounce it with four in exchange for UK citizenship. I have to get out of here before they close the borders!)
I will forgive your affection for the Other Place, given your lovely words, Nicolas! I am interested in the similarities & differences between Oxbridge women's colleges in that era, so will be looking into that too. Good point!
Only a year? Amazing! Not only do you choose stories unavailable elsewhere, but you know how to find their beating heart. May CLDS prosper in the year ahead.
Congratulations on your first year, and for being so successful by the end of it! I love your posts - they always teach me something - and I love the idea of being part of your 'Dining Society'. I'm looking forward to your second year and many more to come. Also, thank you for the kind mention - I am totally thrilled by it!
Congratulations of a successful year here on Substack. You're an inspiration! I enjoy reading your posts and look forward to future offerings. You make reading a joy.
Congratulations! I've learned so many things from your wonderful newsletter this year. I look forward to seeing where you take it over the following months.
Well, happy anniversary! It is a joy to read your writing. And I am forever grateful for your support for my post on Isabella Stewart Gardner. You are such a wonderful writer and resource. Here’s to more years of CLDS!

That's great to hear, thanks Ann. And yes - superb choice!
Congratulations, Ann, and thanks for the shoutout!
And I forgot to add (although I think I mentioned this after another post?) that I haven't read Gaudy Night and will be glad to read it!

Many thanks Andra for all your lovely encouragement.
Congratulations, Ann, and many happy returns! Wonderful to see your Substack growing so vigorously!
Oh that is so kind, Emma, thanks so much for all your support. Very glad to be part of the Frances Cornford project with you.
I’m definitely up for Gaudy Night, I love Harriet and Peter!
Thanks Helen, glad to hear that!
I hope they settled on three syllables for "vegetable," but then again, I'm an American (I'll happily pronounce it with four in exchange for UK citizenship. I have to get out of here before they close the borders!)
They did! You might to do a special old-fashioned pronunciation test before you get UK citizenship, but good luck. Thanks for reading!
Still cheering you on!
Much appreciated, Joshua!
Happy Anniversary. You’re such a positive, insightful, and generous presence on S/stack.
I’m intrigued re your planned foray to the other place (where my heart lies) with Harriet and Lord Peter.
I will forgive your affection for the Other Place, given your lovely words, Nicolas! I am interested in the similarities & differences between Oxbridge women's colleges in that era, so will be looking into that too. Good point!

Many thanks Matthew, it's a great community of writers & readers and I feel honoured to be part of it.
Congratulations, Ann, on your first year of elegant and erudite adventuring here. You richly deserve the success that has come your way.
Thanks Rona, I do love the idea of elegant adventuring, and will try to live up to your generous words.

Many thanks Emily, for all your kind support over the years!
These all look fascinating future posts, and I adore Gaudy Night...its not a coincidence that my oldest daughter is a Harriet!
Thanks Sarah, and now I will really have to do my research! Have you written anything on Dorothy L. Sayers? What a fascinating life she had.

So kind of you, Zina, and I loved your piece on Isabella - you really brought her to life. Lovely to meet you on Substack.
